SHELBYVILLE – Class 3A third-ranked Hamilton Heights avenged its only loss of the season Feb. 11, scoring the final 15 points of the Shelbyville Sectional opener to oust 3A No. 4 Mt. Vernon (Fortville), 70-56, in a frenetically fast-paced game that was done no justice by the final score.
The loss ended a 17-game winning streak for the Marauders, who opened the season 1-2 following losses at Connersville and Rushville. Mt. Vernon (18-3) was a 47-46 winner over Hamilton Heights back on Nov. 28.
The kinetic Huskies (19-1) were led by the game-high 25 points of junior guard Jessica Carr, while backcourt classmate Libby Ogden added 23. Mt. Vernon (18-3) was paced by the 17 points of sophomore guard Jessica Brown.
